How the 24/48 cycle repeats
A 24/48 pattern schedules one 24-hour duty period followed by 48 hours off. Because the three-day cycle does not align with seven-day weeks, weekly totals vary.
Separate scheduled presence from payable categories
A 24-hour duty block may contain sleep, meal, training, callback or other categories treated differently under policy or agreement. A schedule generator cannot decide which hours are compensable.
Plan relief and exceptions
Overtime, trades, callbacks, leave and minimum staffing can materially change the planned cycle. Maintain relief capacity and record every exception.
Review with the applicable framework
Fire-service pay rules can involve specialized statutory, collective-bargaining and local provisions. Use the generated schedule for planning and obtain qualified review for payroll treatment.
