Preserve exact punches

An audit needs the original clock records. Rounded payroll values should be stored as derived values, not replacements for the exact punches.

Compare more than one interval

Calculate the same shifts using exact time and each candidate increment. Record the signed minute difference for each shift and the cumulative difference for the review period.

Translate time differences into pay impact

Multiply the cumulative hour difference by the applicable rate only as an estimate. Premium rates and regular-rate calculations may require additional logic.

  • Exact paid minutes
  • Rounded paid minutes
  • Signed difference
  • Cumulative difference
  • Estimated pay impact

Review direction and consistency

Look for patterns in whether differences tend to increase or reduce paid time and whether the same method is applied consistently. Arithmetic alone cannot determine whether a policy is legally acceptable.
